<p>SWIOTUNA team participated in the 28th Session of the IOTC held in Bangkok @ Swisohotel from 13th -17th May 2024.&nbsp; 11 conservation and management measures were adopted by the Commission. These include Resolutions on</p>

<ul>
<li>Climate change,</li>
<li>management of Drifting Fish Aggregating Devices in the IOTC area of competence,</li>
<li>on the establishment of a list of vessels presumed to have carried IUU fishing in the ITOC area of competence,</li>
<li>on a regional observer scheme,</li>
<li>&nbsp;on the establishment of a programme for transshipment by large scale fishing vessels,</li>
<li>on a ban of discards of bigeye tuna, skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna and non-targeted species caught by vessels in the IOTC record of authorization that operate in IOTC area of competence, on management procedures for Skipjack Tuna,</li>
<li>on management procedure for Swordfish,</li>
<li>on promoting compliance by nationals of contracting parties and cooperating non-contracting parties with IOTC conservation and management measures,</li>
<li>on the promoting of the implementation of IOTC conservation and management measures and conservation and management measure on marine pollution.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

<p>It&#39;s disappointing to note that the proposal regarding yellowfin tuna was not adopted,</p>

<p>The highlight of the meeting was a cocktail event that we hosted by SWIOTUNA on IUU fisheries. It was well attended by heads of delegations, the Executive Secretary, fellow observers, and other distinguished guests. The cocktail provided an opportunity for interaction and networking among the delegates and raised the profile of the network.</p>
