SWIOTUNA ENGAGEMENT MEETING WITH FITI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SWIOTUNA hosted the Executive Director of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) Mr. Sven Biermann in our offices to discuss key priorities for the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) region. The discussions focused on sharing progress updates on FiTI implementation in the SWIO region, discussing collaborative strategies to secure SWIO countries' commitment to FiTI, exploring how FiTI can support SWIOTUNA’s transparency goals, and agreeing on a way forward.
In attendance were members from FOSCAMC, Tuna Alliance of Tanzania, TuFAK Kenya and CANCO who joined us virtually.
This meeting emphasized the importance of partnership and transparency in advancing sustainable fisheries management in the region.
SWIOTUNA pledged to make a public statement encouraging countries to make a commitment to FiTI.
