On 14th February 2025, SWIOTUNA, in collaboration with ANCORS, hosted a webinar on the decision-making processes within Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs). In attendance were over 25 participants from SWIOTUNA membership in the region.
The webinar successfully provided a deep dive into the complexities of decision-making within RFMOs, combining theoretical frameworks with practical examples from the IOTC and the Maldives. The presenters highlighted the challenges of achieving consensus, the importance of stakeholder engagement, and the need for innovative approaches to improve the effectiveness of RFMOs. The session also highlighted the critical role of regional cooperation and the influence of external factors like market demands and environmental concerns on fisheries management.
