SWIOTUNA will be participating in the small scale fisheries summit that provides an opportunity to celebrate IYAFA 2022 and promote dialogue and collaboration between and among small scale fisheries organizations and other SSF stakeholders from 2nd-4th September 2022 at Rome Italy.
WWF have organized a bycatch mitigation workshop focused on drift/ gillnets in the Indian Ocean. Objective of the meeting is to Undertake evaluation of existing mitigation measures for their sustainability to reduce bycatch of multiple taxa in drift/gillnet fisheries/gears and to scope and assess the feasibility of novel or experimental measures being developed for this purpose in the Indian Ocean.

WWF Madagascar commissioned a study on assessing the foundations of a sustainable blue Economy in the South West Indian Ocean Region. The study will inform the implementation of the current grant being implemented by SWIOTUNA and other parties in the region on Unlocking the potential of a Sustainable Blue Economy in the SWIO region. SWIOTUNA in liaison with WWF Madagascar have organized a webinar on the 24th August 2022 from 10.00am -12.00pm EAT to present the main findings of the report. The meeting audience are members of SWIOTUNA and any other institution in the region with a stake in the blue space.
